  1. The most pathetic character is Nurse. I feel bad for Nurse because all she wants is a friendly relationship with Juliet, however that relationship cannot be breached as a result of society's status quo. Nurse comes from a lower class, thus she indulges in servant duties and is not an equal upon the Capulets. When Nurse informs Juliet of Romeo's marriage plans, she is exposing herself to boy talk with Juliet. While having this conversation, Nurse attempts to prolong the conversation as much as possible because she enjoys having boy talk with Juliet. Clearly, the relationship Nurse wants with Juliet is portrayed thru her conversations, thus making her pathetic because she knows this relationship is not tangible.

  2. The most pathetic characters are Juiliet's parents. I feel sorry for them because they just want their daughter to be happy and have a good life. So when they find someone that they think would be perfct for Juliet to marry (Paris), and Juliet refuses to marry him, they are shocked and hurt. Her dad doesn't even want to have anything to do with her. Then when she finally agrees to marry Paris, they are overjoyed. But then their daughter dies the day of her wedding.

  3. I would say the Nurse since she knows that she wont have a good relationship with Juliet but she still tries. Juliet will never respect her since of her social status(pretty much same of what alli has said) So the Nurse is a pretty sad character story since she tries for no reason

  4. I agree with brittney as well. Since its a blower that the day after Juliet agrees to marry Paris shes dead. They were all happy that she was going to go get married and ended up dead. Poor parents i would say.

  5. I think Paris is a pathetic character, he knows that Juliet is not very into him, and yet is is so desperate to look past that, that is why he wants to marry her so quickly, because he doesn't want to lose the only chance of marrying

  6. I think that Lord and Lady Capulet are the most pitiful characters. They believe that they are doing what is best for Juliet when they betroth her to Paris. However, when she refuses to marry him they grow angry because they realize that they must hold their promise to Paris and have Juliet marry him. They are so focused on their honor that they do not realize that this is not the best thing for Juliet because she does not want to marry Paris. I feel bad for the Capulets because it is only after Juliet and Romeo are dead that they realize their mistakes and figure out that Juliet was not at all interested in marrying Paris.

  7. Paris is the most pathetic character in the play. He has money, good looks, and royalty. It's pretty sad that Paris is fortunate enough to have all of this, and still can't get Juliet to like him. Juliet actually disrespects Paris by smart mouthing him.

  8. I think the most pathetic character is Romeo. He falls in love so fast. In the beginning of the play he acting like he is gonna die because he cant be with Rosaline but a day later he is all over Juliet. I think he is pathetic. He doesn't know the true meaning of love or even the most basic definition. I pity him for not being able to understand the true meaning of love. </3

  9. I think the most pathetic character is Paris. He is the most pathetic character because he keeps going after a girl(Juliet) that doesnt like him. I agree with Leanna, Paris has the money, looks, and royalty but Juliet still is not falling in love with him. If shes not feeling him then, obviously he needs to move on and chose another girl already. Any girl would probably die to be with him but instead he still goes for the girl whos heart is already taken.

  10. I think the most pathetic charater is Juliet, come on faking your death..then actually killing yourself, shes given pretty much anything she wants all her parents ask of her is a simple thing which is very common and expected of by young women to do which is marry whoever your parents think is right and yet she cant follow that...she "falls in love with Romeo" a person which shes known for about all of 5 minutes at the beging. And if she would just listen maybe she wouldnt die later. I just dont see how she could be so pathetic just wasting her life away doing whatever she pleases to lose everything in the end.

I disagree with Madelyn how can you hate on secondary characters when if you look back thats how things were back in those times wealthy parents pretty much jus married their daughters of to other wealthy family thus' tieing both families together allowing them to give their money to their kids, they get rich and the cycle continues. And just because they want Juliet to marry paris and not Romeo of course which is their enemy doesnt make them evil pitful pathetic etc just means they are doing what they have been (what i am guessing) raised to believe... I some what like Lord and Lady Capulet.

  11. i feel the most sorry for the nurse. she has been running back and forth delivering forbidden messages between romeo and juliet just to get caught up in this mess they have created. i feel sorry for her cause has to deal with juliet being impatient and stuff just to run off again to deliver a secret message to juliets love , all this to do what ? she doesn't even know besides to make juliet happy

  12. I think that the most pathetic character is Juliet. She acts very childish in making her decisions. For example, when she tells her parents that she is in love with Romeo, and doesn't want to marry Paris, she relies on others to try to persuade her father. When she first relies on her mother, she agrees with her father, and then Juliet turns to the Nurse for assistance. Then the Nurse tells her what her mother said, and the Nurse leaves it up to Juliet. Also, when she is to marry Paris, she "fakes her own death" by drinking potion that "[wroughts] on her the form of death". I think that is pathetic, because the only way she could get to Romeo is by pretending to die instead of facing the problem.

  13. I agree with anthony because i agree that Juliet is the most pathetic character not being able to solve her own problems.

    ReplyDelete
  14. I think the most pathetic charcter is juliet because she falls in love in someone who she just met. She makes hasty decisions such as marrying romeo. In the process she gets the nurse caught up and basically wrecks their relationship. she fakes her own death wich leads no only to her demise but also romeo's.

    ReplyDelete
  15. i agree with alli because the nurse has always had the mother daughter relationship with juliet but after juliet meets romeo her opinions and social status get in the way.

    ReplyDelete
  16. I think Paris is the most pathetic character becuase he always seems to try too hard to get Juliet. As a man he just cannot let go of the fact that Juliet doesn't like him. He makes himself believe that he is good for her and she loves him but he is just fooling himself because he doesn't stand a chance in a million years with Juliet.

    ReplyDelete
  17. I think the most pathetic character is Juliet because even though she is young she still makes child-like decisions. She secretly married Romeo though she just met him and thinks that he is the love of her life. Another child-like decision is when she goes to Friar Lawrence's cell to tell him that she wants to kill herself because she can not be with Romeo. But instead she takes a sleeping potion to fake her death to get out of marrying Paris. Soon that decision ended to Romeo and Juliet's death.

I agree with Anthony that Juliet is the most pathetic character because faking your death then actually killing yourself is not the brightest idea.

  18. I agree wiht Alli as well. I think that the Nurse is trying to stays good friends with Juliet. As Juliet matures she tires harder to stay close but Juliet just keeps pushing away. The Nurse works so hard to please Juliet and all Juliet gives her is the cold shoulder and the boot. She gets angry too easily doesn't acknowledge the fact that the Nurse has always been there for her. No matter what though the Nurse keeps trying.

  19. I think Paris is the most pathetic character because he keeps trying to obtain things that are unattainable. One of these things is Juliet because she doesn't want him like he wants her and yet he is still all up on her. He almost looks desperate for love. Like tiara said he just should move on and look for other girls because they'll all be like, "oohhhhh Paris :)" so I agree with tiara that he should just move on and look for someone else.

  20. The most pathetic character in the book is Paris. One example is when he tries to make juliet fall in love with him. He tries while knowing that juliet does not like him but he ignores that fact. Also Paris seems as though he is desperate to marry juliet just to make himself feel better.

    ReplyDelete
  21. I agree with Justin that Paris is pathetic and that he is just desperate for love. He, when is rejected, goes into denial and starts to make her love him by any means.

    ReplyDelete
  22. I think that Romeo is the most pathetic character in the book because he is immature. When he found out that Juliet was dead, he immediately decided to kill himself rather than to wait for another person to come along, and for him to fall in love again. And when he was banished, he wasn't grateful for the mercy given to him, and he bawls over it when he should be more mature about the situation.

I disagree with Ermias because the relationship between Juliet and Nurse was already immature and Juliet simply got over her immature relationship with Nurse.

    ReplyDelete
  23. I think that Paris is the most pathetic character. Although Paris is rich, and in Lord and Lady Capulets' minds, the perfect mate for Juliet, Juliet refuses to marry him. He decided to force Juliet into marriage which is a pathetic and desperate action.
I agree with Justin and Akshay. I agree that Paris should have moved on, but didn't making him the most pathetic character in the book/play. I also agree that he was desperate and pathetic in getting Lord Capulet to force the marriage.

  24. I agree with asiaa because the nurse is innocently getting involved with Juliet's drama. In addition to helping Juliet, Nurse also has to put up with her whiney behavior and demands. Overall, the nurse does favors for Juliet relentlessly, thus making her the most pathetic.

    ReplyDelete
  25. I agree with Laura. Juliet relies on everyone surrounding her. Juliet relies on the Nurse's messages, Friar Lawrence's adivce and Lady Capulet to convince her father to not force her to marry Paris.

    ReplyDelete
  26. I believe that Paris is the most pathetic character in the play. I feel sorry for him because he has to marry a girl who does not even love him or have the tiniest affections for him.
I agree with Miranda because Paris tries to hard to get Juliet and she does not even care.

    ReplyDelete
  27. The most pathetic characters are Montague and Lady Montague. I feel the most sorry for them because most of the time they do not know what is going on with their son even though they are his parents. They did not know about Romeo's marriage or why Romeo died.

    ReplyDelete
  28. I disagree with Akshay, Justin, and lgoodier22. First, Paris did not know that Juliet did not like him or did he force Juliet to marry him. He was promised by Capulet to be married to Juliet. Also, just because someone does not move on does not make that person pathetic. Forcing people into marriage also was not a pathetic action at the time the play takes place.

    ReplyDelete
  29. I think the most pathetic characters in the book were The Montages. They are totally oblivious to their son's situation and don't even know about Romeo's marriage.

    ReplyDelete
  30. I agree with Andrew. Paris cannot be conceived as a pathetic character because he was totally unaware of Juliet's situation and should not be classified as the most pathetic character. Being forced to marry was not a foolish move because it helped the play go on.

    ReplyDelete
  31. I think the most pathetic character is
Romeo. I feel sorry for him because he can't be with his wife, Juliet. It's pathetic when he finds Juliet in the Churchyard and doesn't even try to find out what happened to her. As soon as he sees her in the tomb he kills himself.

    ReplyDelete
  32. I agree with Brittney. I also think the Capulets are pathetic. Their desire for their daughter to marry Paris never comes true.

    ReplyDelete
  33. I think the most pathetic character in the play is Juliet because throughout the entire play, her decisions she thought was right like falling in love with Romeo and marrying him, but she was totally wrong. Once she met Romeo, everything went in a downhill trend, leading to the end of her life. What I thought was really pathetic about Juliet was that those moments before she had died were all times when she was upset or angry. I also agree with Anthony; Juliet ends up faking her death, but soon really meets death face-to-face. Her past actions before her death, had lead her to her death.

    ReplyDelete
  34. I think Paris is the most pathetic character. He tries so hard to get Juliet to love him and marry him but she loves someone else. Its really sad that he tries so hard, and for nothing, because in the end he dies for a girl that will never love him.

    ReplyDelete
  35. The most pathetic character in the play is Lord Montague and Lady Montague. I think they are the most pathetic and I feel the most sorry for them because they never seem to know what is happening or what kinds of hard situations Romeo is in. They mostly rely on Benvolio to figure out the problem and fix it. It seems like they could care less. In the beginning when Romeo was absent and was hurting because of his former love Rosaline, they didn't know about it and just asked Benvolio to help him through it.

    ReplyDelete
  36. I agree with Andrew. Throughout the whole play they were never really there for him. They did not know much about Rosaline or Juliet. Also at the end when he died, Lord Montague didn't even know the reason why his son lost his life.

  37. I think the most pathetic character is Juliet because if her actions before and after Romeos death. One action that was pathetic before Romeos passing was not telling her parents, whatever the consequences may be, because if they knew then none of this Paris nonsense would have occurred. Another pathetic option Juliet made that was after Romeos death was killing
herself when he died because I mean theres plenty more fish in the sea and to kill yourself after a already lost cause is pretty ridiculous.

    @Kenny

I agree with you because even through the beginning of the play Juliet was pretty pathetic by not speaking her mind to her parents. Juliet really did keep trying at a pointless charade and she really just could have told her parents off or ran away. Juliet couldn't be more of a pathetic character since she came face to face with the real death after faking it in the first place.

  38. In Shakespeare's "The Tragedy of Romeo and Juliet", Sampson is the most pathetic character in my opinion. He believes he's cool and tough in the begining, when he's talking to Gregory; in realty he isn't. For example, when he's telling Gregory what he will do to the men and women of the Montagues, he says he will "thrust the women to the wall" and "cut off their [the maids']heads". He reminds me of my dog George, always looking for attention. He really is a needy person.

  39. The most pathetic character in “Romeo and Juliet” is Lady Capulet. She does not know much about her daughter and she needs Nurse on her side when it comes to spending time with Juliet and giving her motherly advice. Also, she does not have much say in decisions that her husband makes regarding the future of her daughter. I feel sorry for Nurse because Juliet takes advantage of her and everyone else picks on her. Although she is willing to do anything for Juliet, she realizes later on that her friendship with Juliet has faded. She becomes simply a messenger and servant to Juliet and not the mother figure that she always felt she was. Her role in society is not equal to the rest even though she works hard and is very dedicated and kind.

    ReplyDelete
  40. I think the most pathetic character is Juliet. I say this because she is the center of the drama. She has to make the biggest decisions. Also she is in love with Romeo whom her parents and friends all dislike. Not only do they hate him he slays her cousin and gets banished. Now Juliet has to deal with death of her cousin and Romeo's banishment. She's so lost in the mist of everything. Then finally she kills herself over Romeo's death towards the end which is absolutely pathetic thus making her the most pathetic character.

    ReplyDelete
  41. I disagree with allidriscoll, I don't believe the Nurse's true patheticness comes from the social status difference, but the age difference. It's like having a boy talk between mother and daughter. That's pretty much what the Nurse is there for, is it not? Lady Capulet wants to be up to society's status quo so she hires a nurse to babysit Juliet.

    ReplyDelete
  42. I think that Paris is the most pathetic character because he tries to marry Juliet even though Juliet can't stand him. In Act 4, Juliet comes to the Friar but Paris is already there. Juliet tries to avoid any conversation with Paris, but Paris is trying to put "the moves" on her but Juliet is already in love with Romeo. Paris tries so hard to get this one girl that he should have stopped before he started.

    ReplyDelete
  43. I agree with Akshay. Paris only wanted someone to show around like arm candy. He doesn't care about Juliet's feelings, he just wants whatever he can get.

    ReplyDelete
  44. I agree with Laura Battin. Juliet is also pathetic, especially when it comes to making her hasty decisions. I don’t think it was necessary to pretend in killing herself. This just shows that she is immature, selfish and pathetic at the same time.

    ReplyDelete
  45. I would have to say the most pathetic character would be Paris. I chose Paris because it took him an entire book to get a girl, and he still cant do it. He is very delirious and absent minded by not getting the point that Juliet does not love him back. I mean come on its not rocket science!!

I also agree with cmarkot because everything would have been fine if he never engaged with Juliet.

    ReplyDelete
  46. Personally I think the Nurse is the most pathetic character. I feel sorry for her because her and Juliet have been so close for so long and the Nurse suggests one thing to Juliet that Juliet doesn't agree with, and Juliet leaves the Nurse in the dust. The Nurse tells Juliet she should forget Romeo and marry Paris because he is much better for her. Juliet realizes her and the Nurse are being seperated because Juliet is maturing as she grows older and have big choices to make, where the Nurse's opinion doesn't matter as much. Juliet says "Ancient damnation! O most wicked fiend!
Is it more sin to wish me thus forsworn,
Or to dispraise my lord with that same tongue
Which she hath praised him with above compare
So many thousand times?" because the Nurse used to praise Romeo but now looks down on him and encourages Juliet to marry Paris.

    ReplyDelete
  47. I think Romeo is one of the play's very pathetic characters. One reason why he is pathetic is because he does not think before he acts. Whenever he does this, it results in a bad outcome or something that could have been prevented.

    ReplyDelete
  48. I agree with Haley. Paris is very stubborn because of the fact that he won't give up on trying to marry Juliet. I also agree that it is sad and pathetic that he dies over her even though he was never going to be loved by her.

    ReplyDelete
  49. The most pathetic character in the play would be Nurse. I feel the most sorry for her because she tries her absolute hardest to keep the friendship between her and Juliet, despite the numerous times when Juliet treated her like she was unimpotant or disposable. For example, when Juliet and Nurse were sharing their opinions on Romeo it was visablly clear that Nurse was trying her hardest to make the conversation continue for as long as possible, showing how much she enjoyed these priceless moments with Juliet.

    ReplyDelete
  50. I agree with allidriscoll because her perspective of Nurse's character was some what similar to my own. Like she said, the Nurse was naive in hoping for a friendship with a character of such a higher social status. Furthermore, Nurse should have never longed for something more in her relationship with Juliet because she knew it wasn't "tangible".

    ReplyDelete
  51. Mr. Collins' response made me laugh. I hadn't realized Paris just couldn't get a girl the entire book, and once he did, she died! I agree Paris is absent-minded. I mean come on, how could he not catch on to the "I will confess to you that I love him" and whatnot?

    ReplyDelete
  52. Throughtout the play, i believe Paris is the pathetic character.I feel very sorry for Paris because he constantly tries to make Juliet love him. when Paris was meeting with Friar Lawrence about his marriage to Juliet, he says how he knows he can make her happy and all the things he can give to her. In my opnion, I think Paris is a little tto over himself and believes he can get anything he wants.

    ReplyDelete
  53. Paris is the most pathetic character in the play. He is oblivious to Juliet's disgust for him and her love for Romeo. I do not feel sorry for him because he is unaware of her situation. His absent mindedness makes him pitiful.

    ReplyDelete
  54. I agree with Leanna. Paris is fortunate to be wealthy and of high social status. But even so, he cannot get Juliet to like him.

    ReplyDelete
  55. I think that the most pathetic person in the play are the minor servants like Sampson and Gregory. They have somehow become swept up in the same hatred which consumes the Capulets and montagues without having any reason to do so. They would glady give their lives for an argument that doesn't even concern them
I also agree with Alli. The Nurse is also a pathetic character since Juliet is slowly starting to pull away from her. They had had a bond that rivaled that of a mother to her child's, but without Juliet, the Nurse is left jobless and alone.

    ReplyDelete
  56. I believe that Romeo is the most pathetic character throughout the play. His entire drive and motivation is derived from love that was formed over the span of less than 2 weeks. Due to his hasty actions to be with Juliet, he eventually kills himself because he naively thinks that his life is better of over without Juliet in it.

    ReplyDelete
  57. I also agree with Stephany F that Paris is pretty pathetic. During the play he tries to marry and woo a child who has no interest in him whatsoever, and attempts to win over the family with social status and wealth. Towards the end he wastes his life trying to kill in the name of someone (Juliet) who does not care for him in any way; these acts of self confidence, to me, are pathetic.

    ReplyDelete
  58. i think that the most pathetic characters are the lord and lady montague. i feel sorry for them because they know nothing about their own son. Throughout the play they dont know about his marriage or the cause of his death.

    ReplyDelete
  59. i agree with bria. it's pathetic how they are not part of the feud but they make themseleves a part of it and suffer the consequences

    ReplyDelete
  60. I feel bad for Paris because he is handsome, charming, and rich and he loves Juliet but she wants nothing to do with him. He is pathetic because he has no idea that Juliet does not like him and that she is already married to Romeo.

I agree with Eurka, Paris has no idea that Romeo has already married Juliet and that she does not want to marry him.

    ReplyDelete
  61. I think that the most pathetic character in the play is JULIET'S parents lord and lady Capulet. I say this because they didnt know a thing about Juliet and what she was going through in the play. I feel bad that they dont know anything about her...and later on in the play she dies

    ReplyDelete
  62. I agree woth Saeri because throughout the pay, the parents doesnt have a clue about what is going on in the life of their child. This causes them the consequence later on in the play.

    ReplyDelete
  63. Paris is the most pathetic character. He has almost eveything he could ever want, but he's still not happy. He could have almost any lady for his bride, yet he's so spoiled he wants to get the one that is the hardest to get, Juliet. At one point in the story, he even tells her to admit that she loves him, even though she so obviously doesn't. I agree with lgoodier22 that Paris is so pathetic, he actually has to get Juliet's father, Capulet, to force Juliet to marry him. I feel sorry for Paris because he has everything he could need and more for a happy life, yet he is still discontent.

    ReplyDelete
  64. I agree with megan feng. Romeo is a pathetic character. Romeo is such a fickle and doesn't understand anything about love. He kinda kills most of the main characters because of that.

    ReplyDelete
  65. I would say the most pathetic in the play Romeo and Juliet is the nurse. She is the most pathetic because because the nurse is probably the closest to Juliet but yet Juliet sometimes treats her like the nurse is nothing. This is why i feel sorry for the nurse.

    ReplyDelete
  66. I also agree with iAndres because the nurse gave Juliet love and everything but Juliet still sees her as a nurse who is at a lower social status then Juliet. After all the nurses hard work, she is not appreciated. This is why the nurse is the most pathetic.

    ReplyDelete
  67. I think the most pathetic character is the Nurse because she is trying way to hard to have a girly relationship with Juliet and Juliet obviously doesn't but no matter what the Nurse won't stop trying to be Juliet's girlfriend.

    ReplyDelete
  68. I agree with John because Romeo doesn't think before he acts he's a crazy 16 year old doing whatever he feels.

    ReplyDelete
  69. I think the most pathetic character in the play is Paris because he is in love with Juliet, who does not like him at all and she is in love with Romeo. I feel sorry for Paris because he is clueless throughout the whole play about his fiance's hidden relationship and thinks that Juliet is in love with him.I Also feel sorry for him because he is heartbroken when Juliet is found "dead" and is killed by juliets lover therefore, i believe paris is the most pathetic character.

    Rebecca Manikkam Period 7

    ReplyDelete
  70. I also agree with hyles10 about the nurse being the most pathetic character because she keeps trying to be Juliets girlfriend.Juliet keeps maturing in age and mentality, later on in the play she sees the nurse as a servant more than a friend. the nurse is quite pathetic because she trys hard to be Juliets friend but Juliet perfers to see the nurse in a different matter. It is sad that the woman who raised Juliet is now being treated as one below Juliet.

    Rebecca Manikkam Period 7

    ReplyDelete
  71. Im most sorry for the nurse. She loves Juliet and wants to be her friend but knows she cant because shes in such a low status. She really cares for Juliet and would do anything for her. When she was having the conversation with Juliet about what Romeo said she was stalling. She didnt want these conversations with Juliet to end and she knew once Juliet married Romeo, the Nurse would never see her agian. When Juliet breaks the tie with the Nurse its all over, the game is done, and the Nurse become basically nothing.

    ReplyDelete
  72. I agree with Dia. The nurse really does try and really wants to mantain the realtionship she has with Juliet but just cant seem to do that. But the nurse knows it wont work, but still never gives up

    ReplyDelete
  73. I think romeo is the most pathetic character because if he doesn't get is way he complains. Then he tends to become sad and make everyone feel bad. The as he falls in love with juliet he acts like the world is going to end if he is not with her. Also he gets mad when his plans go wrong and expects someone to make him feel better. Romeo acts like a drama kingand goes and kill people if someone doesn't agree with him. He doesn't understand what love really is, he just treats it like it is a game.

    ReplyDelete
  74. I agree with lorena because Romeo is banished and juliet has to marry Paris. Even though Romeo is banished he doesn't give up on juliet and when he saw her lying in the tomb he thinks she's dead and kills himself just to be with her even though he doesn't know that she is still alive.

    ReplyDelete
  75. The most pathetic characters are Romeo's parents, Montegue and Lady Montegue. Throughout the whole play, they have no idea what is going on. They never knew that Romeo had ever gotten married or how he died. I feel sorry for them because they are clueless about their own son's life.

    ReplyDelete
  76. I think Lord and Lady Capulet were the most pathetic characters because they were very selfish, stubborn, and were control freaks with a grudge that they refused to let go of. By promising Juliet's hand in marriage to Paris without atleast even letting Juliet know before it was done, they show that they are inconsiderate. Then they threaten to kick her out if she doesn't marry Paris; this shows that they are stubborn, and selfish. And even the fact that they are trying to get her married when she's like 14 years old? My parents would kill me if they even caught me dating! and Juliet's parents are trying to force her to marry an older man against her will.

And I agree with Aatessa, Juliet is a weak character because she is desperate. She is willing to let her family and friends think she is dead to be with one person. I understand that she loves Romeo, but that's life, we all lose things or people we love, pretending we're dead isn't going to change that fact. But that also makes Friar Lawrence a weak character because it was his idea in the first place, if he is a priest he shouldn't be telling 14 year old girls to pretend to be dead to be with an older man who is a murderer.

    ReplyDelete
  77. I think the most pathetic character would have to be Paris. He apparently loves Juliet but both he and she know that Juliet will never love him back. And Paris was arranged to marry Juliet just so that she ends up dying th day of the wedding, he has wasted his time (4 days =D)waiting for Juliet to love and marry him, when in fact the feelings will never be returned.

    ReplyDelete
  78. I also agree with Alli. The other most pathetic character would have to be the Nurse.
She keeps on trying to keep the relationship she and Juliet have together from falling apart.
But everytime she attempts to have those little girl talks or have fun with Juliet, Romeo, of course, takes the place of the nurse in Juliet's life.

    ReplyDelete
  79. I agree with Jenn Doan. Montague and Lady Montague seem like they don't really care about Romeo very much and they are never there for him. They are pathetic because they make Benvolio fix everything, not taking on their parent responsibilities. They are just clueless about Romeo.

    ReplyDelete
  80. I think Paris is the most pathetic character. Because of his looks, wealth, and status, Paris could most likely have any girl he wants, but the one person he wants to marry is in love with someone else. I also feel sorry for Paris because his fiance is already married and he has no clue about it. His hopes are all raised because Juliet's parents have approved of him and a wedding date's been set and then...Juliet "dies". To put it simply, that sucks for Paris.

    ReplyDelete
  81. I also agree with Erin. The nurse is a pathetic character as well because she strives so hard to make life good for Juliet, but in the end Juliet pretty much brushes her off.

  83. The most pathetic character in "Romeo and Juliet" is Paris. Paris is the most pathetic character because he is so persistent for Juliet to fall in love with him. He continues to ask Juliet to marry him when she does not love him back. Paris was so relentless that he went through Juliet's parents to make her consider marrying hm. I feel bad for Paris because he wants to marry Juliet so bad, but she doesn't love him back

  84. I think that the nurse is the most pathetic character in Romeo And Juliet because she just wants to be friends with Juliet, but wishes to do so too much. She only wants to be in a friendship with Juliet and doesnt really care about what Juliet Truely wants.

  85. @ Katlyn Easter....i dont think juliet brushes the nurse off so much as the nurse brushes juliet off. Towards the end the nurse doesnt really care what Juliet truely needs anymore.

  86. I agree with Katlyn Easter, she had also said that Paris was the most pathetic. Her view that Paris could have any girl but he only picks Juliet who has already been married makes him even more pathetic. I agree also that it sucks for Paris because he wanted Juliet so bad but she ends up "dying"

  87. I believe that Paris is the most pathetic character because he wants to marry Juliet so bad yet Juliet constantly articulates her displeasure in the idea of marrying him. Paris wants to enter a loveless marriage and he doesn't even know it. Paris wasted time trying to get Juliet to love him, only for her to die in the end.

  88. I agree with hlyles. He said that the Nurse tried to have a girly relationship with Juliet. The nurse doesn't realize that Juliet doesn't need her anymore. The nurse keeps trying to be apart of what is going on in Juliet's life but Juliet finally pushes her away and says that she doesn't want to share secrets with her anymore and broke all ties with her.

  89. I think the most pathetic character in the play is the County Paris. When I say pathetic, I dont mean the way that I feel sorry for him, I mean pathetic as in "loserish".I think he is pathetic because even after Juliet rejected him once, he once again asked her to marry him, WITHOUT even getting to know her first, or finding out if she was even remotely attracted to him. Also, the second time he asked Juliet to marry him, he asked at the most innapropriate time, right around the time when her cousin tybalt died!

  90. Although, I also agree with Alli. Throughout the play we saw the nurse desperately try to have a relationship with Juliet. By prolonging conversations, having boy talk, the nurse tried as much as she can so she could get closer to Juliet. Even though that never really was going to happen because of Juliets' social status.

  91. I agree with Pushker. Lord and Lady Capulet are extremely pathetic. They are control freaks who have held a grudge for way too long. They are inconsiderate to their daughter by forcing her into a marriage she does not want.

  92. I believe that Juliet is the most pathetic character in the play. I feel sorry for her because she starts maturing over the course of the play, even when she is supposed to marry a man she does not know well. Also, she falls for Romeo because of his charm, unable to fully recognize all that is going on around her. For example, at the beginning of the play, Juliet falls victim to Romeo's kisses and quickly trusts him. Her maturity has not been fully reached before she dies at the end of the play.

  93. In my opinion, Romeo is definitely THE most pathetic character in the play. He's a whiny crybaby who leaves it up to others to solve his problems. When he was exiled by the Prince for the slaying of Tybalt, he ran to Friar Lawrence's cell with his tail between his legs, and spent the majority of the scene crying and moping of the floor, leaving it to Friar Lawrence to give him advice and the Nurse to bring him to Juliet. Through his lack of action and whiny nature, Romeo is utterly and completely useless.

  94. I agree with Kevin wholeheartedly - a two-week love that sprung from a single night spurred Romeo on towards dumb decisions that eventually cost him his life. Oh, and the fact that he poisoned himself. That was kinda pathetic >_>

  95. I feel that Friar Lawrence is the most pathetic character in the play. It was his responsibility to warn Romeo about Juliets fake death. His actions caused the death of two people and he should have been more reliable.

  96. i disagre with josh because paris the only thing that paris did was love juliet but no one was hurt by his actions.

  97. I believe the most pathetic character is Paris. I feel bad for him because he is caught in a love triangle with Juliet and Romeo. He doesn't know that his soon-to-be wife is already married.

  98. I also agree with Bria. Sampson and Gregory are hardly even talked about in the play. They have no major role in the play and yet would do anything for their masters.

  99. I agree with rbpikovsky. Paris has an unfortunate predicament. He chooses the one girl that does not love him back. Paris believes that Juliet is the best choice for marriage and he is rejected many times and ultimately "his love" kills herself. ):

  100. I agree with Brittany. I think that the Capulets just wanted Juliet to live a happy life married to Paris. I just think that it was poor judgment on their part to arrange her marriage and THEN ask her if she can love him, like love is a favor. It would look bad if they arranged something and then had to back out of a deal because Juliet didn't want to marry Paris. Juliet understood that and she agreed to go along with their plans, and they are overjoyed until they find her dead the next morning.

  101. The most pathetic character in Romeo and Juliet is Paris. He is pretty much clueless throughout the play. He doesn't know that Juliet is already married to Romeo. He was also tricked by Juliet into believing that Juliet dies the night before their wedding.

  102. I agree with Andrew D. The Montagues are basically in the same situation as Paris. They don't know whats happening and are not involved much in the play.

  103. I agree with Brittany - Capulet and Lady Capulet are easily the most pathetic characters in the play. Their meager attemts at expressing their love to Juliet are underappreciated, as she mentioned. Their attempts at giving Juliet "the best" are not recognized. However, what makes them truly pitiful is the fact that they don't know how to be parents. In the beginning of the play, Lady Capulet tries to have a proper conversation with her daughter but can't even get through it without the Nurse's support. Also, they have absolutely no perspective on what is important. Their priorities are all out of line. In choosing a husband for Juliet, they focuse on status, wealth, and apperances as opposed to love and kindness. They will never live a full life unless they sort out their priorities and refocus their values. In my mind, this makes a character far more pathetic than not getting what they want all the time.

  104. I agree with Emma about Capulet and Lady Capulet. But i also think that Romeo is a pathetic Character because he had become so cliche about himself. We all know that Romeo is young and at a young age we tent to do things in the thought of an Extream. But even so do we not think so much about what we do in life. Although the rest of the characters believed that Romeo and Juilet were truley made for each other. But where they truley. Or where they just like every other teenage couple at clarksburg that believed they really were in love and did things at and extream. But later realized they didnt really love them. And that they were only thinking on an Impulse. I would feel most sorry for Romeo because he falls in and out of love fairly easy and for the wrong things. But is he truly made the best decision then hes set. But if not then Romeo had made the WORST decision of his life and after life. Now that hes dead with his so called "love of his life" Juliet.

  105. The capulets are the most pathetic. All they want for their daughter is social status. They never wanted what was best for HER. they only wanted what was best for them.

    ReplyDelete
  106. alli, you are totally right. It's a very one sided relationship between the nurse and juliet when things start to fal into place and juliet realizes her social status
